ABOUT FAAF

The Kanem Creative Center serves as a vibrant creative hub for the Fati Abubakar Arts Foundation’s workshops and activities, designed to foster creativity, learning, and community engagement in Northern Nigeria.

Fati Abubakar serves as the Founder and Creative Director, bringing a wealth of experience as a documentary photographer, photojournalist, and public health worker based in Nigeria. She has a BSc in Nursing, an MSc in Public Health and Health Promotion, an MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts. She was previously a Visiting Lecturer at the Division of Arts and Humanities at Duke Kunshan University in China. Her focus lies in capturing the essence of various cities and towns, shedding light on both the triumphs and challenges faced by the local communities.

In response to the emergence of the Boko Haram insurgency, she initiated a personal endeavor known as Bits of Borno (www.bitsofborno.com), which has garnered recognition from esteemed publications such as the New York Times, CNN, and numerous other news agencies. Furthermore, she has successfully conducted many media workshops.

The Fati Abubakar Arts Foundation (FAAF) is a registered nonprofit organization located in Nigeria. Its core mission is to promote visual arts education, encompassing photography, videography, and audio documentaries, while also nurturing digital literacy, particularly in the realm of new media.
